There are many treasures to find in Hogwarts Legacy. Some of these come from large, ornate chests that are scattered all over the game world. However, due to randomness and unreliable RNG, you might end up getting something that you don’t want. Here’s our Hogwarts Legacy guide to help you get different legendary items from legendary chests.

Hogwarts Legacy guide: How to get different legendary items from legendary chests

The Hogwarts Legacy legendary chests are few and far between. In most cases, the loot you obtain will be random. Let’s say you and a friend are playing the game, reaching the same chest in a particular location. You could open it and receive a hat. Meanwhile, your friend might get a robe. RNG being RNG, you might not obtain what you want.

Still, there’s a way to somehow mitigate the issue, and it’s fairly simple, too:

  • Once you’ve discovered a legendary chest, don’t open it yet. Instead, do a manual save.
  • Open the chest and check your reward. If it’s a type of gear piece you need, then no worries there.
  • If it isn’t, just reload that save and reopen the container. You might receive a different item.

There are a couple of Hogwarts Legacy legendary chests with guaranteed legendary items that you can check out early in the game. There’s one that you can reach after solving the Bridge/Viaduct Puzzle, as well as another at the top of the staircase where you’ll find the Bell Tower Puzzle. Do the save and reload trick here until you acquire something you prefer. Here are some other tidbits:

  • You won’t really need to worry about the type of gear you obtain while leveling or going through the campaign. At best, you’ll want to do gear upgrades/traits once you’ve reached a higher level. This trick is useful if you can’t find a legendary for a particular slot.
  • It’s also a good way to acquire more cosmetic options for transmogrification. Every equippable item you pick up gets saved in your transmog/design menu. As such, you can try this if there’s a particular design that you haven’t discovered yet.
  • More often than not, you still need to identify these items just to see their design and stat rolls.

Hogwarts Legacy is available via Steam.
