Horror Icon Junji Ito Clarifies Comments On Hideo Kojima Collaboration (1)

We all know that Hideo Kojima left Konami acrimoniously, and the gaming world lost the horror gem that was P.T. However, there have been rumblings that the Japanese creator has been looking at exploring the horror genre once more. What better way to do that than to tap on the talents of a fellow legend? Just yesterday, we reported that a collaboration between Kojima and horror manga-ka Junji Ito might be on the cards. This was after Ito was quoted at an interview at Comic-Con 2020. However, it would appear that there is no Kojima horror game in the works.

Clearing the fog

In an update on Twitter, Ito clarified his comments in order to quell speculation. Rather than Kojima inviting the artist to work on a potential horror game, it would appear that it was just a passing remark made at a party. Ito never did claim that Kojima Productions was working on a new horror game, or that it was a formal arrangement between the two. Of course, the excitement that stemmed from the original claim definitely shows potential. For now, we just have to see if things truly pan out.

A translation provided by Twitter user @eigogamejikkyo provided more understanding. “In a past interview, I said casually that I received an offer from Mr. Kojima, but in reality, it was a remark made at a party where he said, ‘If there is an opportunity, I may ask for your help’. I apologize to Mr. Kojima and all of the fans to whom I may have given false hope,” Ito explained.

While our hopes may be dashed for now, the support shown by fans could easily sway things in our favor. People do love a comeback story, and even if we do not get that Silent Hills remake, perhaps an Ito/Kojima horror game might just be better.
