How to beat Master Kohga in Tears of the Kingdom

Master Kohga is back!

Master Kohga makes a return to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. If you’re venturing through the underground Chasms of Hyrule, you’ll eventually run into Master Kohga, who you previously fought in Breath of the Wild. After you learn the Autobuild ability, Master Kohga becomes jealous, and wants to fight you. We’ll explain everything on how to beat Master Kohga in Tears of the Kingdom.

If you’re continuing the main quest called ‘A Mystery in the Depths’, you’ll eventually find the Great Abandoned Central Mine. Here, a Construct will give you the Autobuild ability, and when you test it out, the Yiga Clan suddenly ambushes you. Their leader Master Kohga isn’t happy that you can automatically build things, so he does the same, and begins the fight.

Stuck in a ring, Link must run from Master Kohga trying to run him over with vehicles. The main thing to remember is that you need the stamina to outrun him. Most of the time, you can’t run faster than the wheels can drive. So if Master Kohga is catching up to you, make a turn to try and get behind the vehicle.

At the beginning of the fight, he’ll be open enough for your arrows. But because of how difficult it is to shoot at someone driving a vehicle, you’ll need to use the Fuse ability. I recommend Fusing a Keese Eyeball to your arrows, because as soon as he’s shot, he’ll be stunned. This is the time to run up to him, and hit him as much as you can.

After doing this a few times, he’ll eventually shield himself in the vehicle to the point where you can’t shoot him. So instead, wait till Master Kohga tries to ram into you at full speed. It’s easy enough to run out of his way, which will cause him to crash against the ring.

Once he crashes, take that time to get hits on him. What I found most useful was holding the ‘Y’ button down so I could use a charge attack. This made it easier to get more hits on him than my normal attacks.

And that’s all you really need to know about beating Master Kohga! I wouldn’t recommend fighting on two hearts as I did, but I missed finding the nearest Lightroot. Make sure to enter the fight with full health if you can. Not everyone can have two hearts and a dream like I did and somehow come out alive, so be careful about the gloom’s effects.
