What are Memory Vestige Light and Darkness in Destiny 2?

Memory Vestiges are items you’ll obtain by completing activities around the Pale Heart, and they come in two different types. You’ll obtain a Memory Vestige: Darkness for opening mini-quest chests around the area. The Stitching Event chests are a decent example and give a Memory Vestige along with a few other goodies.

Oddly enough, these event chests do not appear on the map even if you have a Loot Detector mod on your Ghost, so you’ll have to keep your eyes peeled to find them all.

Memory Vestige: Light items are much easier to obtain, and you can find them by completing Cyst missions for Micah-10. These tasks are part of her Alone in the Dark questline, and you can get Memory Vestiges by defeating Champion enemies.

The drop rates are all over the place, so don’t worry if they don’t appear during every Cyst mission.

How to use Memory Vestiges in Destiny 2

After you’ve collected five Memory Vestige: Darkness items, they will automatically combine into a Legendary version, and the name will change. The name is a clue to the whereabouts of a Prismatic Fragment. For example, Memory: Impassive Darkness hints that you should travel to the Impasse Landing Zone.

Light Vestiges work much the same way. You’ll need five for the Legendary version, and the name is a clue to the whereabouts of a Prismatic Fragment.

Are Vestiges bugged in Destiny 2?

At the time of writing, there are numerous reports of these items being bugged. The Light Vestiges, in particular, don’t always show up, and we don’t know if this is intended.

Another reported issue concerns the Vestiges combining. Your Vestiges should automatically combine into a legendary version when you hit five copies. If you somehow have five or more and they haven’t changed, you must delete them from your inventory until you have four. When you obtain the fifth, they should merge.

If you’re getting comfortable with The Final Shape post campaign, you’ve probably noticed how valuable Exotic Ciphers are. These items are a rarity, but there are a few places to earn them if you know how.
