How to get Gloom Sword in Tears of the Kingdom

You can only obtain the Gloom Sword by defeating Gloom Hands and Phantom Ganon. Gloom Hands appears first, which then leads into a fight against a boss by the name of Phantom Ganon, who takes on the appearance of Ganondorf himself. These fights can be tricky, with Gloom Hands being a massive pain to take out. The trick to defeating Gloom Hands is to use arrows and aim for the eyes on the hands, different types of arrows that do splash damage can deal damage to more than one at a time too. Only some Gloom Hands become Phantom Ganon, so you need to locate certain Gloom Hands to fight Phantom Ganon.

After you defeat Gloom Hands, Phantom Ganon is next. This one is more standard than the Gloom Hands fight, but still pretty tough. You’re going to want to keep your distance from Phantom Ganon, as his easiest attack to dodge is the charge attack he does. You can also fire arrows at his head to stagger him, which will make the fight a lot easier. If you have enough arrows after defeating Gloom Hands, you can also just use arrows here. It’s what I did when I got my Gloom Sword!

Where to find this boss

I have personally only found two locations with Gloom Hands and Phantom Ganon in Tears of the Kingdom. One is inside the Great Deku Tree, which you need to beat in order to restore him to his former self. The other is inside a cave on the south-west of the map, which you can see in the map below. In this cave it’s actually pretty easy to take care of the two enemies as well, as there’s high ground where it’s hard for them to reach you if you play your cards right.
