Destiny 2 How To Get Weapon Mods

How to get Weapon Mods in Destiny 2: Lightfall

A different kind of modding.

Weapon Mods are the perfect way to add that extra bit of spice to your favorite gun in Destiny 2. But since Destiny 2 has undergone so many recent changes, there’s some confusion surrounding Weapon Mods. This shouldn’t be an issue for longtime players. However, newcomers are probably pretty unsure of it all. Here we’ll explain how Weapon Mods work and how you can get them in Destiny 2: Lightfall.

Destiny 2: Lightfall – Weapon Mods explained

To start with the basics, Weapon Mods are things you can add to your weapons to boost certain characteristics. For example, some mods increase the ammo capacity of a gun. And another Weapon Mod may increase that weapon’s damage to bosses. They’re simply a quick way to make a weapon better fit your playstyle and/or need.

Weapon Mods have no bearing on anything like the weapon’s power level. But some special mods do raise the weapon’s base stats. None of them will turn the weapon from bad to amazing, but they each offer a nice benefit that you may as well equip. It’s also worth noting that you can’t use mods on Exotic weapons, they’re powerful enough as it is after all.

How to get Weapon Mods

This is where things get a bit more complicated. In the past, you could simply buy new Mods from Banshee-44 at the Tower. The selection of Mods here would usually rotate every week. But ever since Lightfall was released, his inventory has not contained any Mods at all. This has stirred up quite a bit of confusion within the community as a result.

Some community forum posts have raised the issue to Bungie, and the developer’s response seems to indicate that this is a bug. So perhaps Banshee-44’s inventory will once again stock Weapon Mods soon. But another way to attain these mods is to get rank-up packages from Banshee-44. To do this, simply complete enough bounties to rank up and you should be rewarded with a new Weapon Mod. To check which mods this applies to, head over to your Collections and navigate to the Mods tab and select Weapons.

Some Weapon Mods are earned through more difficult means. The Adept Mods are all earned through getting to the Lighthouse in Trials of Osiris. Obviously, this is not an easy task, but these mods aren’t all that great anyway. For the most part, they simply raise the base stats of the weapon they’re applied to. But that’s not all too useful for most weapons. Then there’s the Taken Spec mod which can only be earned through the Last Wish raid. Again, not a simple task.

Bungie will likely add a way to simply purchase Weapon Mods again soon. As for when that will be, it’s hard to say. Hopefully, it’s something they can do soon since a lot of new players are struggling to figure this out. Another mystery that players have solved has to do with a new Exotic mission found in the EDZ.
