Dragon’s Dogma 2: How to stop crashing on launch

Since players have been discussing this irritating issue online, there are some possible solutions available that have worked for many gamers. Try to go through this list and see if any of the solutions work for you. While these may not work for your situation, they’re still good to try to see if they work.

Run Steam as an administrator

One Reddit user on the Dragon’s Dogma subreddit explained that they were able to stop their game from crashing on launch by putting Steam in administrator mode. Here’s how you can do this:

  • Right-click the Steam shortcut on your desktop and select “Properties”.
  • Go to the “Compatibility” tab.
  • Check off “Run this program as an administrator”.
  • Select “Apply”, then “Okay”.

If not Steam, you can try running Dragon’s Dogma 2 itself as an administrator. Just right-click the game’s shortcut and select “Run as administrator”.

Check system requirements

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a pretty hefty game to run on your PC, so make sure to check all the minimum and recommended system requirements. You may just find out that your specs aren’t as good as they should be to run this game.

If they’re not the best, you may have to adjust your graphics settings so your PC can handle running the game. This can only happen if you can even get to the options without crashing. If you can change your settings, avoid overloading your GPU and put some of your graphics settings to low.

Remove DLC unlocker

In the same Reddit thread, another player reminded everyone that gamers who use DLC unlockers will have to remove all files of their DLC unlocker for Dragon’s Dogma 2 to work.

Even though you may have used DLC unlockers for other games, it can interfere with how Dragon’s Dogma 2 is trying to launch. Check all folders and files related to your DLC unlocker and get rid of them.

Update your graphics drivers

Sometimes these issues can be easily fixed by keeping your graphics drivers updated. If you have an NVIDIA graphics card, use GeForce Experience to keep your graphics drivers updated.

AMD also has its version of this called AMD Radeon. I had to update my graphics drivers between play sessions of Dragon’s Dogma 2, so make sure to keep up with those updates.

If nothing else works, uninstalling and reinstalling your game can occasionally work. This is only a last resort option to try out if none of the other tips work out for you. Besides Steam on your PC, you may want to attempt to run Dragon’s Dogma 2 on your Steam Deck.
