How to throw grenades in Starfield

Leave an explosive impact.

At some point during your Starfield playthrough, you’ll inevitably come across throwable weapons. You may find some mines or grenades to use during combat, but the game doesn’t exactly tell you how to use them. Sure, you can equip them, but you won’t notice them appear in your hands. Let me explain how to use and throw grenades in Starfield.

Throwables don’t work the same as holding up your main weapon. In Starfield, how you can throw grenades is simply by pressing the ‘G’ key on your keyboard. Of course, just make sure you’ve equipped a grenade first.

To do so, head into your inventory, and look under the Throwables category. There, you should see any type of mine or grenade you have on you. Click one, and you’ll equip it. Then, when you’re ready, just tap the ‘G’ key and you’ll toss the grenade. There’s no perfect aiming with it, you can’t hold down the key and find a precise direction. Just make sure you’re not throwing them at your feet.

These throwables cause large explosions, which can heavily damage enemies. If you want to have different grenade types right at your fingertips, try adding them to your favorites menu. In your inventory, press the ‘B’ key while hovering over a grenade, and it’ll appear on your favorites menu. To find this menu, hit the ‘Q’ key, and you’ll have a ton of spaces available. Each space coordinates with a key on your keyboard, if that’s easier for you.

Grenades can come in handy during tough fights. You’ll find them throughout random outposts, and on enemy bodies. As another warning, be careful about the gravity of the planet you’re on. The grenade may not land exactly where you want it to due to the gravity level.
