How to unlock the true ending in Persona 4 Golden

There are several stages to unlock the true ending in Persona 4 Golden. Those who are looking to avoid all spoilers and only get a vague idea of how to unlock the true ending can use the list below. If you want to know the specifics of each requirement, they are explained further down in this guide.

  • Max out the Aeon social link before 12/23
  • Select the correct dialogue choices on 12/03
  • Name the correct culprit on 12/05
  • Complete the dungeon that becomes accessible on 02/13
  • Speak to everyone that you maxed your social link with on 03/20
    • When prompted to go home say “No” and instead head to Junes food court
    • Talk with your friends
    • Go to Samegawa Flood Plain and speak to Dojima and Nanako
    • Head to the Velvet Room and speak with Igor, Marie, and Margaret
    • Go to the location that Nanako mentioned to confront someone

Max the Aeon social link

The only overtime requirement to unlock the true ending is that you must max out the Aeon social link before 12/23. You can begin the Aeon social link as early as 04/18 by talking to Marie in the Velvet Room. She is available most days that it isn’t raining and can be found in the Velvet Room. The only other restriction is that you can’t progress beyond Rank 4 until 07/24.

12/03

You will encounter the next key requirement to unlock the true ending in Persona 4 Golden on 12/03. Here you must give several correct answers in a row when confronting Namatame or else you will receive the bad ending. These answers are as follows:

  • Wait a second here…
  • We’re missing something.
  • Namatame’s true feelings.
  • Something’s bothering me.
  • We’re missing something…
  • Calm the hell down!

12/05

A couple of days later, you and your party members will discuss the murders. After this discussion, you are given a difficult call to make. You need to decide who the true culprit is behind the Inaba murders. Picking the wrong culprit three times will trigger Persona 4 Golden‘s bad ending and you’ll have to reload to get the true ending.

The team figures out that the killer has to be someone who had a connection with both Mayumi Yamano and Saki Konishi, knows about the “other side,” and what you did there, and could deliver the warning letter to the Dojima Residence without raising suspicion. Given these requirements, the correct choice is Tohru Adachi.

02/13

On February 13, a new dungeon will be unlocked called the Hollow Forest. This was the dungeon that you gained access to by completing the Aeon social link before 12/23. Once unlocked you need to work your way through its 10 floors and beat the dungeon’s boss.

03/20

In a regular playthrough, 03/20 marks the last date on your calendar. However, players looking to unlock the true ending in Persona 4 Golden still have some work to do. You must start out by going around town and talking to everybody with whom you maxed out your social link.

After speaking to all of the required characters you will then be prompted to return home and get ready for tomorrow. When this prompt appears select ‘No’ and then ‘Go into town.’ Head to the Junes Food Court and talk to the gang. You’ll speak among yourselves and realize the protagonist, Adachi, and Namatame were all given the power to enter TVs before their Personas awoke. There must be a common reason as to why.

After this conversation ends, go to the riverbank to meet Dojima and Nanako. During this conversation, Nanako will mention the “weird attendant” you met on the opening day at the gas station. Now head to the Velvet Room to talk to Igor, Marie, and Margaret. They will listen and provide guidance on what you need to do next.

The final step on 03/20 is to head to the gas station you first visited on the opening day. Here you will find the Attendant standing outside. Confront the Attendant and question them about Adachi and Namatame. Soon enough the Attendant will reveal their true identity and you will unlock one final dungeon. Complete this dungeon and defeat the final boss to attain the true ending in Persona 4 Golden.
