In a statement, Infogrames said the decision came after the acquisition of Cryptic Studios and that the “transaction is a significant step towards the transformation of the company into an Online-centric game company with continued access to a world-class global retail distribution organisation.”

The value of the distribution arm is around the €60m EUR mark and will be invested straight back into Infogrames’ game development, studio and publishing operations.

David Gardner, Infogrames CEO, said the deal will now allow Atari to “focus its financial resources and creative energy exclusively on developing and publishing online-enabled games.”
