Due for release next year on Steam, Block’n’Load is described as a game of  “first-person action with strategic construction” and unsurprisingly features destructible block environments. Yes, we have seen this before.

Players will have the choice of six heroes to take into battle each with their own special abilities. There’s the usual mix of characters, Seargeant Stone who loves shooting stuff, Cogwheel the unhinged weapons obsessed robot, deadly and speedy Ninja O.P Juan Shinobi, builder Tony with his construction skills, the rather British looking hunter Longshot who’s partial to sniping, and Doctor Eliza Doolally with her chemical weapons.

These over the top characters will need to work together to build their bases, place traps and defensive structures. It’s then a matter of attempting to destroy the enemy’s base by hammering away at a coloured cube. It’s pretty standard fare as far as objectives go but the Block’n’Load  is more creating solid defenses and structures which Jagex hope will make every game feel unique. It’s a slight step-up from their previous block shooter release Ace of Spades as far as gameplay is concerned and it’s also slightly visually more appealing. Whether the gameplay is exciting enough to keep players engaged remains to be seen.

A beta test is scheduled for December and sign-ups are being taken now on the new website.
