League of Legends Team Builder introduced

Don’t you hate it when teams are just not quite balanced correctly? The latest development in League of Legends is the Team Builder, a feature which will attempt to match players who have selected a specific role and champion they wish to play within a team.

The new system will essentially provide a better match-making experience so players who are being placed in a game are not purely being matched on skill level which is how the current system works. This should in effect mean more balanced games as players will end up playing roles they want to and , well that’s the hope anyway.

Riot’s Lyte explained the theory behind the new system:

“Good teamwork doesn’t just start when the minions spawn or at the first big teamfight. It starts in champion select. Champion select sets the tone of the game and greatly impacts whether you feel like you’re going to have a fun match. So we asked ourselves: what’s the ideal champion select? And how can we improve this process so it happens more often?”

“Once we had a model for how Team Builder would bring players together, we started looking at matchmaking and how we could evolve it to help further enable good games. One of the most important things for a team’s enjoyment is making sure that they’re matched against similarly skilled players.”

Reading the update from Riot it certainly sounds like a lot of thought and effort has been put into the Team Builder, but how it works in practice remains to be seen once it hits the PBE.
