LucasArts are using The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition to gauge interest in further re-releases of classic point and click titles. The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Brooks Brown, the community manager for LucasArts, stated “If this sells, there’s no one at this company who doesn’t want to do these games.””It’s a matter of showing that there’s interest and this market is alive and get people as excited as possible about Monkey Island Special Edition to show that these things can make it.”The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition is a 360 and PC title due out this summer. It recreates the gameplay of the original 1990 Secret of Monkey Island game but with redrawn HD graphics and full voice-acting, largely using the same voice actors as the latter games in the series. While nothing has been changed – the dialogue and puzzles are all the same, and even the redrawn graphics look to almost duplicate the old scenes – those who long for the good old days will be able to switch to the original graphics and game at the tap of a button, as the update is built directly on top of it.”It’s been 20 years since the first game,” says Brooks. “We’re really excited to be coming back.” He’s not the only one.
