Magicka: Wizard Wars shuffling towards open beta

Like a wizard who’s just accidentally teamkilled a friend with a meteor, Magicka: Wizard Wars is shuffling innocently towards open beta.

Paradox’s free-to-play team-based wizard combat game will be hitting open beta on 27 May, meaning that there are only a few short weeks until absolutely everyone can try it out for themselves. If you want to play sooner (and get a few goodies, like founder-specific wizard customisation items) you can still pay for the various packs on Steam, but at this point it might just be worth waiting.

Magicka: Wizard Wars takes the explosive, team-killing spellcasting of Magicka and moves it into a team-based format, challenging wizards to capture locations on a map and whittle down the enemy’s reserve of points. I played it awhile back, and found it to be jolly good fun.

27 May for the Magicka: Wizard Wars open beta, everyone.
