Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 developer reveals release date and new details

Still coming in the Fall.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is coming to PlayStation 5. The eagerly anticipated title features returning hero Peter Parker, working alongside Miles Morales, as seen in previous footage. Thanks to its most recent appearance at Summer Game Fest, we also know more about when it will release.

Host Geoff Keighley met with developer Brian Intihar on the stage and attempted to learn more concrete details about the upcoming release from Insomniac Games. He mentioned previous promises that the title would arrive in Fall of this year, and wanted to know if the developers still felt confident in that timeline. Recognizing Geoff’s love of exclusives, Intihar provided another brief video clip that ended with an exact release date: October 20, 2023.

Other assets included some artwork showcasing Venom, who was otherwise the star of the show. Keighley asked if the version of Venom appearing in the game is Eddie Brock, which Intihar denied. To find the character’s actual identity, you’ll need to play the game. However, Intihar did confirm that Symbiote powers play a large roll in the gameplay and the story.

In the previous presentation, it became clear that Peter Parker has changed a bit as a result of going through some things. There is “much more of that journey when you play the game,” Intihar noted.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 also takes place in a much larger environment that specifically includes Manhattan, Queens, Brooklynn, and certain other areas. The city has “more than doubled in size,” which should provide a sufficiently dynamic playground for plenty of web-slinging exploits.

With Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 due to arrive in just a few short months, we can likely look forward to learning a lot more about the title in the very near future.
