Microsoft has announced they are ending production on Kinect V2 for Windows.

senior technology evangelist Michael Fry shared this statement:

Because both Kinect for Xbox One and Kinect for Windows v2 sensors are functionally identical, our Kinect for Windows SDK 2.0 works exactly the same with either.

Adapters to use the Kinect on Xbox One for Windows are now commercially available, so if you hadn’t gotten your hands on these Kinect SKUs but wanted to, you’ll be fine. Kinect development on Windows was always going to be a niche, and Microsoft has clarified they aren’t ending support for Kinect on Windows. In the end, this is just something to save costs.
