Minecraft Passes One Million Sales

Everybody’s favourite block-based sandbox-mining-exploring-skeleton-bashing-type-thing, Minecraft, has now sold over one million copies while still in beta testing.
Creator Markus “Notch” Persson posted the news on his blog today in typically understated fashion. The entry simply reads “Minecraft just passed one million sales.”
Remember, this is not some figure-fudged press release from a major publisher where ‘sales’ actually means ‘shipped to retailers’ – these are genuine sales to actual people. The game itself has only just entered beta, but is a spectacular success; thanks, in part, to a pre-order discount offer (similar to the sales model used by fellow indie title Mount & Blade) that guarantees people access to the beta and full support thereafter.
The other part to the success, of course, is the game being rather good.
