From today, a new ‘Community Playlists’ option will be added to Modern Warfare 3’s public match options. Community Playlists will bring user-created game types (previously only available in private matches) to the masses.
The first game type to be added will be ‘Drop Zone’, in which two teams fight to seize control of a frequently changing control point. So far, so King of the Hill. The difference is that the team in control of the Drop Zone will recieve a continuous supply of care packages.
There are no killstreaks available in Drop Zone, so the team attacking the drop zone are going to have to rely on their own skills to make it past whatever abilities/support the care packages bring.
Hardcore mode is to undergo a fairly major update. ‘Ricochet’ will be turned on for Hardcore matches, meaning any friendly fire damage will be taken by the shooter. Infinity Ward are saying that the change has come as “a response to team killing.”
I don’t know about you, but the whole Ricochet ‘thing’ doesn’t sit too well with me. I’ve been playing Hardcore mode for many years now, I like it how it is. Yes, team killing happens but it’s all part and parcel of the experience.
I imagine accidental damage caused to team mates through the use of grenades is going to become a major sticking point and the centre of much “greifing” from the Hardcore community.
