Spelunky 2 may have only emerged from the shadows a short while ago, but that does not mean that there is not plenty of support and updates on the way. Following the last few patches that aimed to improve the experience of adventurers in the dangerous world of spelunking, the option of multiplayer is finally coming for the PC platform. While playing with friends has been possible on the PS4, the rough edges meant that PC players had to sit out for the time being. However, developer Mossmouth has announced that Spelunky 2 multiplayer is targeted for an early December release.
It has been taking a while, but there are certainly reasons for this. Mossmouth has shared that the initial implementation of Spelunky 2 multiplayer surfaced many problems on the console side. In order to fix all of that, the team needed to look deeper into things.
This meant changing up the internal game logic and rolling back the game to achieve something more sustainable. With all of that done, there is still plenty of testing to be carried out. Rather than potentially dealing with both disgruntled PS4 and PC players, the team wants to make sure things are running smoothly enough first. Thus, the wait on PC continues.
Splitting the load
The focus on Spelunky 2 multiplayer continues to complement the post-launch support for the game. With the larger experience comes more player feedback, and Mossmouth is certainly taking everything into consideration. With all the different modes and systems, the game is bigger than ever. That would also mean an increase in the work needed to make sure everything is up to snuff. Even if Spelunky 2 multiplayer takes a while more to be a reality, it will be worth it.
More updates about Spelunky 2 multiplayer will be shared closer to launch. With December just a few weeks away, it is time to start refining your skills for multiplayer mayhem.
