Much as I love the Mount & Blade series, I found Fire & Sword to be lacking the necessary finesse to pull off the introduction of firearms. However, a new patch may solve a lot of those issues.
My main problem was that many of the features needed to pull off firearm combat from within the Mount & Blade engine simply weren’t there. You couldn’t crouch down to pull off a better shot (and keep yourself in some kind of cover) and there weren’t enough formation options for troops armed with guns.
It seems Paradox and Snowberry were listening to similar complaints from the community, as the latest update addresses a lot of these things. As well as new formations, the ability to crouch and the ability to play as a female character (hooray), general weapon rebalancing and tweaks to reloading have been made too. You can read a full changelog in the source link below.
The update will download itself through Steam, so the only action you need to take is firing up With Fire & Sword again to see how the changes affect matters.
