The game will be based on the first four books and films of the Harry Potter series, bringing magical gameplay mixed with light humour to players. Fans can take on the role of Harry Potter himself, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger and other favourite characters as they attend lessons, mix potions, cast spells and fly on broomsticks. Hogwarts castle is there to explore, as well as Diagon Alley, the Forbidden Forest and the village of Hogsmead.

“With LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 we are creating an open, wide-ranging experience within Hogwarts that is full of fun and LEGO magic,” said Tom Stone, managing director, TT Games. “Harry Potter is one of the most beloved and well-respected characters, and we look forward to bringing gamers a new way of interacting in the universe with the LEGO games’ great humour and exploration.”

LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 is due to go on sale in 2010. A teaser trailer has been released in conjunction with this announcement, see it over at IncGamers TV.
