Rx 6900 Xt Reveal

Newegg Insider lists RX 6000 specs in latest edition

Oops, didn't see your next-gen GPU specs there.

Newegg Insider, the company’s blog for buying and how-to guides, published a GPU buying guide last week, fit with specs for the upcoming AMD RX 6000 series GPUs. As reported by Videocardz, the article laid out specs for the RX 6700 XT, 6800 XT, and 6900 XT. Newegg has since updated the post, removing the rumored specs.

In the update, Newegg calls out the TechPowerUp GPU database, saying that the writer must have pulled information from this as a source. The numbers in Newegg’s article match, at least, and TechPowerUp clearly states that the listings for AMD’s upcoming GPUs are placeholders.

There are a few specs, however, that don’t line up. Newegg’s article, for example, lists all three cards with a base clock of 1,500MHz, while the TechPowerUp database has more specific numbers: 1,489MHz for the RX 6700 XT and 6800 XT, and 1,350MHz for the RX 6900 XT. The memory counts still match up, though. The RX 6700 XT, 6800 XT, and 6900 XT will, according to the database, have 6GB, 12GB, and 16GB of GDDR6 memory, respectively.

AMD RDNA 2 Radeon RX 6000 Series

RX 6000 specs speculation

Although we know all of this is placeholder information, it does provide a look at what could be coming down the pike. Having 16GB of memory on AMD’s flagship would position itself as a stepping stone between Nvidia’s RTX 3080 and 3090. If stock issues persist for Nvidia’s latest GPUs, AMD’s counterparts may be the only option for multiple months.

Thankfully, we don’t have to wait long for details. AMD is set to reveal its new RDNA 2 architecture, as well as RX 6000 series GPUs, on October 28. A new rumored cooling solution could push the cards past what AMD has been able to achieve in the past. Although details are still sparse, AMD has already claimed that RDNA 2 provides a 50% performance improvement over RDNA 1.

Price, as it has for AMD’s Radeon arm in the past, is probably going to be the deciding factor. Of course, we don’t know pricing details yet. However, we expect the flagship 6900 XT to clock in under $1,000 USD, exceeding the performance of the RTX 3080 in some games. If nothing else, it would be interesting to see AMD seriously compete with Nvidia this generation.
