No Man's Sky Desolation Update Takes A Sinister Extraterrestrial Turn (3)

The resurgence of No Man’s Sky has been nothing short of astounding. With plenty of updates and support for the game’s community, Hello Games have certainly turned things around. The team has ambitious plans for the rest of 2020, with something horrifying next on the horizon. The new update 2.6, otherwise known as Desolation, will be upping the fear factor by quite a bit.

The dark embrace of space

Rather than gathering resources, building your base, and exploring planets, No Man’s Sky will bring players into horror movies territory. Desolation will be adding abandoned space freighters, where treasures and danger await. These procedurally generated ships and their loot will be yours for the taking, if you can survive. Players can explore on their own, or team up, with Hello Games stressing that safety really does come in numbers.

Not only do you have to watch out for safety hazards, but also hostile creatures. The developers have given both weapons and enemies upgrades, so you can look forward to “a more dynamic combat experience.” As outlined in the update, there can be a certain sinister alien presence on board, so be sure to stay on guard. Whatever you do, try not to disturb the nests.

These abandoned ships will also have stories of their own, likely revealing the circumstances that led to their sorry state. Uncover hints about each crewmember’s fate by retrieving ship logs and personal effects, and ultimately gain access to the captain’s log for insight into the vessel’s final hours. Players can stumble onto these vessels in their travels, but if you are itching for salvage, specific coordinates can be bought at the right price from a local scrap dealer.

A new update will also see new quality-of-life changes being made to No Man’s Sky, including improved lighting, inventory upgrades, and more. If you have Xbox Games Pass for PC, you can join in the fun instantly.
