Planetside 2’s John Smedley has been discussing how the microtransaction model will work in the forthcoming MMO FPS.
The message from Smedley is pretty clear; Planetside 2 wants to avoid the ‘pay to win’ complaint that players often have when games offer powerful items in exchange for cash.
“There will be a cash shop for the game,” he says. “However the goal is not to sell power.”
“We would sell things like customization … So people could recognize you or your outfit out of a group. We will not sell a more powerful gun or vehicle.”
Smedley also mentioned plans to keep players interested for the long haul, stating that the developers have a “3 year post launch vision for the game”. “We will take fan feedback and alter the plan and really listen to the community feedback,” he adds.
