NPD’s yearend report for 2013 has revealed that there was an increase in game consumption in the US by 1 %. This is taking both the PS4 and Xbox One launches and their holiday performance into account.
The actual numbers go up to $ 15.39 billion. There was a steep decline in retail sales of 11 percent, offset by digital and mobile. In terms of hardware, spending was 5 % higher in 2013 than in 2012.
So, there was a definite boost in numbers thanks to the launch of 8th generation consoles, but it’s not like they have overwhelmed the market completely. We’ll need to track in the following months to see if PS4 and Xbox One can keep their momentum going.
