Nvidia’s RTX 3070 drops below MSRP for this new-in-box OC model

The day has come.

The winds sure have changed for graphics card manufacturers now that the graphics card, and the PC market in general, are on a massive downswing compared to last year. All makes and models of graphics cards have not only been in stock for months now, but also for consistently better deals as time has progressed. Today’s deal for this EVGA RTX 3070 XC3 Ultra is a particularly important milestone, because it’s now selling below the Nvidia MSRP.

For a limited time, you can pick this card up directly from EVGA plus get free shipping for $489.99 USD. This is by far the best price we’ve seen yet for a brand new RTX 3070, but it’s only available as a limited time promotion according to EVGA.

The price is just marginally below MSRP to be sure, but this a fairly good model of the Nvidia RTX 3070. It comes in a sleek, all-black design with a triple-fan cooler to keep things cool and still relatively quiet with the EVGA factory overclocked performance.

Perhaps more importantly, this sale is proof and reward for the many gamers that refused to pay marked-up prices after Nvidia claimed it started at $499.99 at the reveal event for the RTX 30 Series. It only took the whole generation to meet that promise, but don’t let that distract you too much from what you can finally upgrade to with today’s deal.

This model also comes with a stylized metal backplate with honeycomb openings for improved heat dissipation to keep performance strong.

The gamer’s choice

As we noted in our review, the RTX 3070 delivers excellent performance that’s able to meet the needs for most PC gamers. You can have a relatively uncompromised high-refresh 1080p experience, manage 1440p at 144Hz, or even pull of 4K gaming at 60fps with mostly high settings when using this card. Additionally, you get things like support for new DirectX 12 features, access to DLSS and ray tracing, and all within reasonable power consumption.

It might be somewhat bold to call the RTX 3070 the gamer’s choice in mid 2022 on the cusp of the RTX 40 Series, but it does still handily check a lot of boxes. More importantly, it’s something you can buy today and it’s available just below the Nvidia MSRP.

Alternately, you can roll the dice and remain patient for the RTX 40 Series, but we’re already hearing rumors that Nvidia may delay the launch of the RTX 4070 to help reduce the remaining RTX 30 Series stock. Pricing for the RTX 40 Series also remains a total unknown.
