Oddworld: Soulstorm Mudokon guide -- Brewery and Eye of the Storm

After clearing Feeco Depot and The Yards in Oddworld: Soulstorm, you'll see the game's ending cinematic. However, this is entirely dependent on how you've progressed throughout the campaign. Indeed, if you were able to rescue 80% of the Mudokons in at least 12 of the game's stages, you can unlock the final ending, as well as two more levels. Here's our guide to help you with Mudokon locations in the two secret levels in Oddworld: Soulstorm — Brewery (level 16) and Eye of the Storm (level 17) — as well as the final battle. Oddworld: Soulstorm Mudokon locations guide - Brewery (level 16) and Eye of the Storm (level 17) Since we're discussing a couple of levels and the final battle in Oddworld: Soulstorm, you can refer to the pages below for the parts that you need help with: Level 16: Brewery Level 17: Eye of the Storm The final battle Level 16: Brewery The Brewery is one of the longest levels in Oddworld: Soulstorm and, outside of escape minigames, it might just have the most number of Mudokons that you can rescue. Thankfully, the entire stage is fairly straightforward and you'll spot all the Mudokons as you make your way through the level. Likewise, certain sections you'll see will have slightly similar mechanics as well. As such, rather than detailing each pack of Mudokons, this part of our guide will simply have tips. Mudokons: 81 Required for 80%: 65 At the start of the Brewery level, pop your Power of Shrykull ability so Abe can take out all hostiles (seen above). Grab the fire extinguisher from the vending machine to your left, then continue onward. You'll eventually come across an X-Tractor chamber. These rooms tend to have at least three Mudokon workers and three prisoners that are being tortured. In the first area, use the steam vents to stealthily get past the Sligs. Then, try to make the Mudokons follow you to the portal. Next, in the first X-Tractor chamber, you'll see three workers and three prisoners. After gathering the workers, a Slig will spawn to your left. Take the Mudokons with you towards the ledge on the left side. Eliminate the Slig, then activate the switch to rescue the prisoners. This is basically all you need to remember throughout Oddworld: Soulstorm's Brewery level. First, In X-Tractor rooms, check for any ledges that you can use. Always bring your Mudokon pals to a ledge that's higher up to avoid Sligs and mutant dogs. In X-Tractor rooms that don't have ledges, see if there are Glukkon disruptors floating around. If there aren't any, this means you can possess the Sligs so they can take out their allies. This has to be done fast since Sligs can end up shooting your followers. There are also X-Tractor rooms that do have Glukkon disruptions, which means you can't possess anyone. You can toss a brew bottle and brewnade in front of Slig guardhouses. This ensures that some Sligs will get burned alive once they come out. You can then find other means to eliminate the rest (i.e., fizzy pows or rock candies). You may even give some rock candies to your Mudokon friends. They have a decent throwing range, allowing them to stun hostiles as they appear. All transition areas (i.e., the parts of the level after the X-Tractor chambers) tend to have checkpoints, too. As such, just be wary of any mobs you come across while you're bringing your followers to safety. Meanwhile, the outer areas have several Sligs and mutant dogs. This is where you can use your traps and crafted items, or unleash the Shrykull transformation to clear the entire place. Once you reach the end of these sections, you can interact with the wheel to let your train pass by. As mentioned, you'll encounter all Mudokons as you progress. So, by the time you've reached the exit, you should be able to save all 81 of them. In case you do incur casualties, try to rescue at least 65 to meet the 80% requirement. Anyway, the next part of our guide talks about the Eye of the Storm level in Oddworld: Soulstorm. Level 17: Eye of the Storm The Eye of the Storm level in Oddworld: Soulstorm has fewer Mudokons for you to save, at least compared to the Brewery. What makes this particular level unique is that it has several nasty rooms filled with fiendish traps and devious mechanics. Although it's still fairly straightforward, there are also some secret areas that you might miss. The main objective here is to use Abe's chant to activate the pumps in each major section, allowing him to reach the final area. Mudokons: 50 Required for 80%: 40 The Feeder: Mudokon #1 to 8 You'll encounter the first four guys at the start of the level. Continue making your way to the first unique chamber. Here, you'll spot four more Mudokons off to the side. You can't get to them yet since you have to complete the "puzzle" in The Feeder. The goal in this section is to have the first four Mudokons activate the switches (two on the left and two on the right). Once you do that, Abe has to step on the plate at the bottom of the room. Before you do that, though, do a bit of preparation: Check the left and right sides for vending machines and lockers. You should be able to make a few stun mines. You can place these stun mines near the climbing poles. Take note of the first Slig that spawns (it's equipped with a rocket launcher). You can possess this creature to eliminate some of its comrades. You can also possess, then cause the mob to explode. Immediately possess another hostile that's moving toward one of your followers. After all the Sligs are downed, go ahead and make the eight Mudokons follow you to the bird portal that's down below. Mudokon #9 to 12 You should spot a lightbulb/switch behind a metal barrier. You can use rock candies to break this contraption. If you're able to do that, a giant ladder will appear. Climb it to find a secret area with several Mudokons and a bird portal. Crushing Chamber: Mudokon #13 to 14 The Mudokons are to the left. You'll need to use Abe's chant to possess and stun the Sligs so that they step on the three plates. This will activate the pistons, allowing you to bring the two Mudokons to the next area. Sanitation Chamber: Mudokon #15 to 19 You'll find some Mudokons at the start of this section. Tell your followers to wait, then cross the gap to find a couple more of your buddies. Tell them to wait as well. The objective here is to use the monkey bars to reach the upper-right area, all while flamethrowers attempt to turn Abe into ash. The generator for the pump is right above and you can activate it with your chant. Bring the Mudokons to the portal once you're done. Note 1: If you rescue all seven Mudokons at the same time, the portal will give you a Power of Shrykull charge. Note 2: Past this point, there's a secret area if you climb down the giant ladders (it has a Royal Jelly). If you climb up, however, you'll reach the next section. Tear Fermentation Chamber: Mudokon #20 to 25 Use the vending machine to get a lot of brew bottles. You can toss these on the exposed wires to cause a fire. By pulling the lever, you can get platforms to go up or down, letting the flames spread to other parts of the room. I personally burned down the left side first. I then rescued two Mudokons there and I activated the pump to get an automatic checkpoint. For the right side, you can go to the topmost floor to possess a Slig that's carrying a flamethrower. Burn down the wooden walls so the Mudokons have a clear path. Note: If you let the flames spread from the center of the room going to the right, it can burn and kill the Mudokons there. Mudokon #26 to 30 When you get to the next area, look for a lightbulb and a metal grate that can be destroyed with a fizzy pow. There's a secret area down below with four Mudokons and a bird portal. You do need to pay 100 moolahs to open the doorway. The Eye The Eye chamber doesn't actually have any Mudokons, but the puzzle here is fairly unique. The goal is to use the ledges and monkey bars to reach various spots in the room, all while attempting to avoid the shots from mobs. Once the main weapon fires its beams, make sure you're close to the Glukkon disruptors/small eyes. After all the eyes are destroyed, you can use the lift to reach the next section. Bone Refinery: Mudokon #31 to 36 For this part, the idea is to use projectiles (i.e., bouncing rock candies) to stun the Sligs. You can then loop around to tie them up. After pulling all the levers, chant to activate the pump. The deadly machinery will malfunction. You can then use a fizzy pop to blow up the metal grate to free the Mudokons. Spice Grinder: Mudokon #37 to 47 Once you go through the doorway to the Spice Grinder chamber, look to your left. You'll see several ledges leading downwards and to the left. There are five Mudokons here and a bird portal. You do need to pay 100 moolahs to lower the barricade. As for the Spice Grinder itself, stand underneath the spotlight to spawn a Flying Slig. Possess it and go around the room while avoiding the mines, grinders, and moving laser traps. Destroy the wooden wall so that the Mudokons have a clear path. Also, avoid getting blown up by the mines down below since the explosion could kill the Mudokon workers there. As you're controlling the Flying Slig, pull the levers that you see to create shortcuts and a means for you to activate the pump. When you're finished, go ahead and rescue the Mudokons down below. You'll eventually reach a checkpoint with a cart that takes you to the final encounter (which happens to have three more Mudokons). Let's talk about that in the next section of our guide. The final battle This is the final battle in Oddworld: Soulstorm, and it's going to be quite a doozy. Mudokon #48 to 50 The last three Mudokons are toiling in this room. Get them to follow you and open the portal. You should get three charges for the Power of Shrykull. If you didn't use it at all during the level, you should have four charges. Interact with the work wheel to start the encounter. The preliminary phase of this fight follows this pattern: Half a dozen Sligs will spawn. Use your Shrykull transformation to kill them. A mine will zip past. You can crouch to avoid it. Another mine will appear. Jump once to avoid it. Two mines will then pop up. Do a double jump to avoid both of them. Another set of Sligs will spawn. Use another Shrykull charge. Repeat the mine-dodging part. You'll repeat these steps until both the left and right eyes have been activated. Once you do that, two Slig tanks will drop down. They will both fire homing rockets and getting too close to either one will electrocute Abe. The idea is to bait them to fire at you, then jump to avoid the rockets. The tanks would end up shooting at their counterpart. Once the first tank has been destroyed, pick up the brewnades that it drops. Quickly throw the brewnades at the explosives underneath the other tank. After you've destroyed both, interact with the wheel to finish the level. Enjoy the actual ending cinematic. Oh, and assuming you've gotten 80% in all 17 levels in Oddworld: Soulstorm, you should also see an extra cinematic where newspapers are talking about the aftermath of Abe's exploits.
