Cryptic Studios and Atari have announced that one million Star Trek fans have created accounts at the official Star Trek Online site.

Following successful closed and open beta periods, players have stuck with the game since its launch on Tuesday in the US.

“After much anticipation, we are pleased to present Star Trek Online to fans and gamers nationwide,” said Jeff Lapin, CEO of Atari, SA. “Throughout the last four decades, Star Trek has been a mainstay in pop culture, influencing legions of ‘Trekkers’ through television, film, and more. We expect Star Trek Online to give fans and gamers an unprecedented Star Trek experience.”

The latest MMO from Cryptic has gone down a treat with gamers, and servers are reportedly struggling with the surge of new players. As reported earlier, Cryptic is having to increase the capacity of game shards to ensure everyone who wants a piece of the STO action can log on.

Star Trek Online goes live in the UK tomorrow, 5 February.
