To no one’s surprise, Overwatch 2 continues to fumble during its early life. The trend continues today, as Blizzard has announced that the highly anticipated Overwatch 2 balance patch is now delayed. Yes, this means that the high-energy Zarya, often running your games, or the Genji and Sombra making your life a living nightmare, will keep on dominating the ladder. It also means that the damage hero, Mei, will still be unplayable after a bug (that wasn’t even really her fault) prompted Blizzard to temporarily delete her from the game.
This news comes from an official post by Community Manager Craig on the Blizzard forums. According to Craig, the Overwatch 2 patch needs to be delayed so Blizzard can “resolve a critical issue.” The delayed content will include “balance changes, bug fixes, including those that affect Mei, and core content updates we have planned for this patch.” This will also delay the Overwatch League Viewership Incentives & Perks package from October 30 to November 4, as well as the cosmetics in the Overwatch League shop.
Bye bye, Mei
The most concerning issue regarding the delay is the fact that Mei is still gone from the game. And she certainly wasn’t the first hero temporarily removed from the game due to a bug or exploit. Bastion and Torbjörn were the first victims, and they were unplayable for a good majority of their release at the time. Now, Mei is falling into the same hole, and it seems like Overwatch 2 can’t go a patch without deleting a legacy character from the game.
Blizzard has not announced how long the delay will last. Potentially, this means we might only have to wait an extra day, but we’ll have to wait and see in regards to any update over the game’s future. Be sure to check back for news on Overwatch 2’s delayed patch.
