Grinding Gear Games has teamed up with Dynamite Entertainment to launch a four-issue comic book series based on Path of Exile.

Due out this summer, the comic series will focus on backstory for the upcoming expansion which is due out this August. Each issue will contain 22 pages which will be released digitally and the full series will also be released as full-colour, printed graphic novel which will be published by Dynamite next year.

Players of the game will also be able to pick up in-game bonuses from the novel such as armour cosmetic effects and as yet unannounced game features.

The novel is being illustrated by Carlos Rodriguez of Nightwing and Teen Titans (DC Comics) fame, and will be written by Royal McGraw who has worked with DC Comics, Syfy Channel, and Electronic Arts.

“We are thrilled to be working with Grinding Gear Games on this,” said Rich Young, Dynamite’s Director of Business Development, who is also serving as Editor on the project. “The work being produced by the creative team is really top notch, and it’s tying in seamlessly to the game, thanks to Edwin and Erik. I think that fans of Path of Exile are really going to enjoy this series, which adds to the depth of the game, but in a different medium.”

This is the first time GGG has ventured into another form of media with the Path of Exile franchise and it sounds promising,
