New Xbox head Phil Spencer was effusive describing his new role in Microsoft with Engadget today. He reaffirms the company’s focus for gamers, and explains how much influence he now yields.
In Phil’s own words:
Winning with the gamer first is gonna be something that drives the organization.
While we already covered how Phil takes control over Xbox Music, Xbox Video, etc., he has also made it clear now that he will hold some influence in the direction of gaming on Windows PCs and Windows Phone. This was something he actually sought out from Satya before taking his position.
The Xbox team, the Xbox leader sitting at the same leadership table as Terry, really helps us look at gaming as that first-class citizen across all Microsoft platforms.
Terry here refers to Terry Myerson, head of Windows’ gaming division, and of course he discussed he already has connections with Stephen Elop, representing Windows Phone as head of Devices.
Phil comes into this position in challenging times for gaming and for Microsoft, but at the same time, we could not be more excited for what the future of Microsoft gaming holds now that he is at the helm. Good luck, Phil.
