Pillars of Eternity 2 backer video talks sidekicks, lighting, and injuries

A new backer video (the 41st) for Pillars of Eternity 2 takes a quick look a sidekicks and a selection of other features. Sidekicks, as you might guess, are a bit like cut-price companions; they only have a standard voice set, but they do get a unique portrait, introductory quest, and personality.

Four are shown in the video (I’m not sure if that means there are four in total in Pillars of Eternity 2, or if those are just examples). There’s a Mountain Dwarf Chanter, a Pale Elf Mindstalker, a Stormfolk Fighter, and an Oceanfolk Wizard. They’re named too, but those are still subject to change.

Injuries have been given a bit of an overhaul too. They now reflect what sort of damage caused the injury, and the party portraits now have a tracker showing how many injuries you can take before you die. Once a character reaches three injuries, through combat or scripted events, the next injury will cause that character to die. As in the previous game, resting will remove injuries.

The rest of the video talks about how improved lighting in Pillars of Eternity 2 will, particularly, enhance the look of shadows in the world. Then there’s a bit of chat about special abilities of the Goldpact Knight, and the mighty Pommel Strike.

Next time, expect details about an upcoming backer beta. Stick around to the end of this one to see a physical manifestation of a cosmic space pig (one of the backer rewards).
