The Call of Duty franchise has been releasing games on an annual basis for many years at this point, and fans won’t have to wait longer for the latest iteration. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is set to be released this October, and developer Infinity Ward has now announced that players can get their hands on the single-player campaign a week early with a digital pre-order.

This new pre-order bonus for the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II campaign is the first time that players have been offered early campaign access. Typically, pre-order bonuses entail early access to multiplayer. However, this could be a smart move as it gives players a reason to play the campaign without feeling pressured to immediately hop into multiplayer for fear of falling behind the crowd.

Everyone who pre-orders a digital copy of Modern Warfare II will receive early access to the campaign “up to” a week earlier than the official release date, which suggests October 20. Modern Warfare II will see its full release around a week later on October 28.

Getting ahead of the game

Modern Warfare II is the latest game in the Call of Duty franchise and the sequel to 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Its story will continue to follow familiar characters like Captain Price and Task Force 141. Infinity Ward describes it as follows: “Task Force 141 faces its greatest threat yet — a newly aligned menace with deep, yet unknown, connections. Familiar heroes return and new allies are formed in a globe-trotting operation, including missions in Europe, Asia, and the Americas.”

For players who are more interested in the multiplayer than the campaign for Modern Warfare II, there is a beta coming up in about a month. PC players will be able to get early access to the beta with a pre-order code on September 22, and an open beta will be available for all players to take part in on September 24-26.

In other Call of Duty news, Infinity Ward has announced a Call of Duty Next livestream which will take place on September 15. This event will provide fans with new looks and information regarding the multiplayer of Modern Warfare II, as well as a look at the new iteration of Call of Duty: Warzone.
