Failbetter Games' Planning Two New Titles, Reveals Fallen London Prequel Mask Of The Rose (1)

Failbetter Games, the studio behind the excellent Sunless Seas and Sunless Skies, has revealed it is working on two brand new projects. While one of the projects remains a mystery, the other will certainly excite fans of the Fallen London universe. Mask of the Rose will be a prequel to the Fallen London universe, and is positioned as a visual novel of sorts. It takes place in 1862, just a short while after London has fallen to the bats. It is up to players to forge new lives for themselves.

Will you visit the underwater ruins of Parliament? Help solve a murderous crime? Aid someone in their pursuit of love? Whichever path you choose, just be sure to take care of yourself in this new world. For fans of the Fallen London universe, Mask of the Rose will allow you a glimpse of events never shown before. The story will be more personal, but there is more to it than just that. The origins of certain characters and institutions will be explored, and new mysteries will require your keen intellect to solve. Even if you are new to everything, it is the perfect jumping-off point to start.

Planning for the future

Failbetter Games intends to launch the Mask of the Rose campaign in February 2021. Following its success with the Kickstarter model, this will hopefully be another smooth rollout. Based on the trailer shown, we can expect plenty of twists and turns in the game. That will be perfect for veterans making a return to this particular London.

As for the second game, CEO Adam Myers shared precious little. However, we can expect it to have starkly different game mechanics in a new setting.

Together with the reveal of Mask of the Rose, console players can look forward to also experiencing Sunless Skies Sovereign Edition. With certification being done, the PC and console releases draw closer. The developers maintained that both releases will be around the same time, and are keeping to their word.
