Microsoft’s answer to cloud gaming, Project xCloud, is nearly here. After multiple rounds of beta and insider testing, the service is officially going live in September. However, the initial launch is limited to just 22 regions, and only supported across Android devices. Game Pass Ultimate members are the first to gain access on September 15. So, if you’re currently subscribed for PC games, the xCloud Game Pass perk is a cherry on top for the service.
Over 100 games will be supported, including Minecraft Dungeons, Destiny 2, Tell Me Why, Gears 5, Yakuza Kiwami 2 and more. Microsoft also stated that upcoming first party games will be available for cloud gaming on release day. More information about the full lineup will be announced before the limited launch. Here’s the 22-strong list of supported markets for the September 15 launch: Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Accessorize with input devices
Alongside the launch news, Microsoft also revealed a huge line of cloud gaming accessories. These include products from Razer, PowerA, 8BitDo and Steelseries. Razer has developed a controller attachment that makes your phone look like a Nintendo Switch, while PowerA made a similar Switch-like controller. PowerA also has a newly-licensed gamepad with a clip for attaching a mobile device.
The 8BitDo gamepad is more of a retro setup, as the name suggests. The company will bring a SNES-like controller to market too, alongside gaming clips for existing controllers. Steelseries, known for their PC accessories, aren’t developing anything new. Instead, it has partnered with Xbox to advertise the existing Arctis 1 Wireless Headset as a device for xCloud gaming.
So, there you have it. Microsoft has finally unveiled its initial xCloud launch plan. It’s not a surprise to see the xCloud Game Pass combination though. Game Pass has undergone some major changes recently, as it seems Microsoft is targetting a seamlessly integrated future for gaming. We could definitely see a PC and xCloud combo coming soon, which would be a great way for anyone to game at home and on the go, without the need for expensive hardware.
