With the biggest shooter franchise in the world set to get another entry in just a few weeks’ time, anticipation is predictably high. There is already plenty of activity surrounding the game, ranging from betas to trailers and more developing news, but the community remains insatiable. Who can blame them, the Call of Duty franchise is built on a hype machine which is constantly running. As is tradition, we are now getting even more juicy details about the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War campaign, courtesy of Raven Software’s creative director Dan Vondrak.
There are light spoilers ahead, so you have been warned. There will be discussions about the story as well as where these missions will take place.
Vondrak pulled back the curtain on three of the upcoming missions. Starting with “Nowhere Left To Run,” this should be familiar to anyone who has watched the trailers. According to Vondrak, this is a meetup gone wrong. Taking place in Amsterdam, it all descends into chaos as a rooftop chase ensues. This is a way in which Raven is paying homage to the original entry in the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War campaign.
The old is new again
That could be in reference to the first mission in the original Black Ops that took place in a bar. The new mission will also feature the RCXD car, which will either delight or bring nightmares to players. “Nowhere Left To Run” will also introduce us to Perseus, the one target you will have to track down as part of the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War campaign.
We move on to the Vietnam War next in “Fracture Jaw.” This will technically be the first time we see Perseus, and will be part of the many Vietnam flashbacks in the game. Expect the spectacle you know and love as the war unfolds around you. These flashbacks are how the characters in the game come to terms with events from their past. How accurate they are remains to be seen during the course of the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War campaign.
It would appear not everything is straightforward. This is quite similar to what we have experienced in the past. There were plenty of twists for the previous games, and what is exactly the truth is up for debate.
Behind enemy lines
Lastly, we have the “Desperate Measures” mission. It is time for a trip behind the Iron Curtain. Deep in the heart of the Soviet Union, players must infiltrate the KGB headquarters. That is definitely not a good place to be during the Cold War in the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War campaign. This Perseus better be worth all of the trouble.
You will start things off by being undercover. Stealth and sneaking is but a given, as you go about gathering intel and eliminating any opposition. As one would expect, things will go wrong at some stage. The calling card of action and explosive combat will punctuate the end of this particular mission in the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War campaign.
If you were not convinced about the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War campaign before, perhaps now you will be. The hunt for Perseus begins November 13.
