New statement reaffirms Ubisoft’s support of Roller Champions despite earlier rumors

The game is still alive for now.

For a few days now, rumors suggesting that Ubisoft would cease all support for its free-to-play live service game Roller Champions circulated on the Internet. This rumor came courtesy of journalist and leaker Jeff Grubb. In a recent episode of the XboxEra podcast, Grubb claimed that Roller Champions would stop receiving content after its third season. Considering the game only came out two months ago on May 25, this would have come as a surprising bit of news if proven accurate. However, a recent update on the official Roller Champions Twitter account appeared to dispel this rumor, stating that “Ubisoft fully supports” the game.

According to the statement, the developers have focused on addressing the common criticisms that players have brought up above all else. To accomplish this, the developers have decided to extend the length of the most recent “Disco Fever” season. This will allow for the release of a patch adding cross-invites to the game, bringing it closer to the kind of social experience the developers promised. Additionally, the “Disco Fever” extension will allow for a number of fixes the developers can safely implement before the next season drops.

Any new content on the way?

Although the developers didn’t bring up any specifics regarding what new content will come to Roller Champions, they did describe what they have planned as “exciting.” However, this content won’t arrive until after they make fixes and start working on their next season.

Even though this statement has officially reaffirmed Ubisoft’s support of Roller Champions, it does not mean that the company will not reconsider this stance in the future. So far, the game has seemingly struggled to maintain interest among players, much like other recent live service efforts. Although fans of Roller Champions will no doubt appreciate the developers’ continued support of the game, none of the proposed fixes and additions are guaranteed to restore the game’s brief period of success.
