You may not have heard of Red Barrels. Neither had I, until about ten minutes ago. They’re an independent developer based in Montreal, carefully constructed from former Ubisoft and Naughty Dog employees (boasting work on Assassin’s Creed, Splinter Cell and Uncharted between them).
In 2013, they want to throw you (and other PC users) into an abandoned Colorado asylum for a bit of a lark. A survival horror style lark, if you will.
As independent journalist Miles Upshurk, you’ll find yourself confronting the truth about Mount Massive Asylum, a place where things walk “a terrifying line being science and religion, nature and something else entirely”. Mm, disturbing.
“”There are already a lot of great games out there about terrifying monsters that eat brains; we want Outlast’s to be scary because you’ll know the enemies you face still have them,” says co-founder Philippe Morin.
Outlast will be sold through digital distribution some time next year. Here’s a bit of a teaser trailer:Related to this article
