REX 4 Texture Direct Gets a New ‘Enhanced Edition’ for FSX/Prepar3D

The folks over at Real Environment Xtreme in the Microsoft Flight Simulator community are well-known for their graphical upgrade add-ons. The team has released a new ‘Enhanced Edition’ update for the REX 4 Texture Direct add-on which has over 2GB of new graphical effects on top of the already amazing 17GB that’s included in the base addon. The software is for Flight Simulator X/FSX: Steam Edition as well as Lockheed Martin’s Prepar3D V1-V4.

Here’s a rundown of all the new graphical goodies:

  • New 3D Clouds including unique cloud base structures.
  • Backend coding compiled to take advantage of our upcoming release of Sky Force 3D.
  • New updated vibrant sky dawn, day, and dusk textures. Includes improved transitional algorithms during dawn and dusk times, properly balanced terrain light and shadow values.
  • Newly enhanced sun, corona, glow, flares, and special effects, giving the most realistic renditions of atmospheric conditions. Panning around your aircraft at different angles during beginning or end of the day will yield just how dynamic these effects are. Rendered for DX9, DX10, and DX11.

If you already own the original REX4 Texture Direct, then you can upgrade to the Enhanced Edition for free. I’ve been using the original addon for about a year now and the results have definitely been stellar! I haven’t tried these new ‘enhanced’ textures for myself yet, but I can’t wait!
