Row bros: Saints Row IV takes over turf in August

After THQ’s financial collapse earlier in the year, former in-house team Volition (developers of the Saints Row series) were purchased at bankruptcy auction by Koch Media, better known by their publishing name Deep Silver. That hasn’t stopped work on the latest edition of the game though, which is now set to appear in August this year.

Here’s your plot: aliens have transported the Saints gang to a virtual reality simulation of Steelport, in which you all have funky superpowers now (for some reason.) Oh yes, and the Saints boss (ie; you) is now the US President. Sure, why not?

It shares a fair bit in common with the ‘Enter the Dominatrix’ portion of Saints Row: The Third, which was originally announced as an April Fools joke, then became a stand-alone expansion and was finally cancelled by THQ with the promise that it would be absorbed by the fourth release in the series.

That still seems to be the plan, as a Deep Silver representative has told Joystiq that “That [Enter the Dominatrix] expansion was canceled and elements of it were rolled into Saints Row IV.” Although that same representative also says that “There will be a director’s cut of Enter the Dominatrix released as DLC when SR4 comes out.” So that’s a bit confusing.

Anyway, as far as the trailer is concerned the game still has shirtless car-surfing and violence. Saints Row IV is due on 20 August in the US and 23 August for Europe.
