It seems that the Steam controller has received a redesign once again, based on files found in the latest Steam Client beta update.

The main change, as you can see, is a four point directional guide on the left touch pad. It appears that Valve wants consumers and developers alike to get used to this touch pad as the default d-pad.
Valve will not confirm this design, but we are sure to get confirmation by the 2015 GDC in March, where the company will have a presentation.
