The month of spooks is certainly here, as we move further into October for the uncertain year that is 2020. Plenty of games have taken the opportunity to add in even more content with a Halloween twist. We have seen the likes of Call of Duty with The Haunting of Verdansk, while Red Dead Online gets a Halloween Pass. The high seas are no different, as Rare has confirmed the October update for its pirate adventure. Sea of Thieves: Fate of the Damned will officially be the title of this upcoming themed update.
The Sea of Thieves: Fate of the Damned tease definitely does not show us a lot of what is to come. That is certainly the style of the developer, which has always remained guarded over details of any new content. We get a slow zoom towards an island, with the outstanding feature of a skeleton holding a bright, white lantern lying on top of a structure.
For current players, the presence of the lantern will be quite familiar. You will usually see different colored lanterns arriving with the Ferry of the Damned. The color corresponds to the cause of death, and is a clear indication of how you perished. These particular flames were a big part of 2019’s Fort of the Damned October update, so it’s not surprising to see the mechanic make a return — with a twist. Sea of Thieves: Fate of the Damned will likely play with these lanterns in a new way.
While the rest of the world have to wait for this maiden voyage, the test server may see this content earlier. Members of the Sea of Thieves Insider Program will likely test the update out before it goes live. Of course, they cannot share what they see. Snitches are not welcome, not even on he high seas.
Prepare for Sea of Thieves: Fate of the Damned this October 28.
