Survival games are all the rage these days so it seems fitting that SOE jump on the bandwagon with a new MMO in that genre . A teaser site for their new game H1Z1 is live and SOE’s John Smedley has been getting the hype rolling on Twitter this evening by saying “you can play it yourself soon. and by play I mean play fully.”

It sounds like SOE are almost ready to go live this mysterious title which they’ve been keeping rather quiet about. The game is expected to be revealed this evening at 5PM PST (8PM EST – 1AM GMT). Smedley will be appearing on Game Talk Live to show the game for the first time so if you are wanting to see what another one of these games is going to look like then tune in to find out.

Reading a few quotes that popped up on Polygon from Smedley it sounds like most of the games in this genre, notably DayZ. Talking about day and night cycles he said:

“In this game it matters a lot more than in others because it gets really dark at night and you need to have a torch and you will be ganked by other players, zombies. So we [have] vehicles in here. We can actually have aircraft if we want. Our goal is to build out this entire massive massive world that is this apocalypse of the United States.”

So yeh, I can’t say I’m overly excited at the prospect of H1Z1, zombies have been done to death and it’s getting a little tired. We’ll have to wait and see if SOE have something amazing to show in an hour or so.

Update: More details can now be found along with an announcement and video in this post.
