Canned Food

There are a couple of ways to cook and eat food in Sons of the Forest, at least in the early game. The first is by eating Canned Food. You should have a couple in your inventory after you grab everything in the crash site. If not, there’s a nearby base camp which you’ll stumble upon as you follow the river. The containers here might have Canned Food, too.

To start chowing down, open your inventory with the “I” key and right-click on the Canned Food and Can Opener. Then, click on the gear icon. This will open the container, and you’ll be able to eat Cat Food (meow!).

Cooked Food

Unfortunately, Canned Food tends to be hard to come by at this stage. As such, you’ll need to cook food in Sons of the Forest. The most common critter in the initial area is the rabbit. Once you spot one, chase after it and start slashing away with your Axe. Your character is faster than the rabbit, but you do need to land a direct hit to kill it. Once dead, hold the “E” key to slice off a portion of meat from the creature.

Next, you’ll want to make a Basic Fire or Reinforced Fire. Once you’ve got a fire up and running, press the “E” key to open a part of your inventory, then select the Raw Meat. Wait for several seconds until it’s cooked (it should slowly turn golden brown). Once your meat is well-done, pick it up and eat it to sate your hunger.
