Square has taken the tough decision to halt all digital sales of FINAL FANTASY 14: A Realm Reborn following its launch yesterday.
MMORPG launches are difficult, often the publisher has no real idea on how hard the servers are going to be hit when the game goes live, even though you’d think there would be some reasonable statistics kicking around to indicate how many copies have been distributed. Most MMOs fall foul of this and server capacity issues ensue.
Square issued a statement announcing that no further copies of the game will be sold until more servers have been added for players.
Due to the overwhelmingly positive response to FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn, we are currently experiencing extremely long wait times for users to be able to log in and play. As a temporary measure, we will halt sales of FINAL FANTASY XIV: A REALM REBORN’s digital download products so we can accommodate all of those wishing to play. We are working to expand our server capacity in the coming days.
ArenaNet suffered the same problems when Guild Wars 2 launched and they also pulled all digital sales until they could handle the load.
