It’s always great to read what’s going on behind the scenes with games you’ve either backed or have an interest in. Cloud Imperium have turned that idea up to 11 with a new monthly report feature from not only Chris Roberts but also key team members working at the various companies around the world involved in the development of Star Citizen.

Right now most Star Citizen backers are simply waiting for the dogfighting module which is due some time in April, but once you read through the lengthy update you’ll realise there’s a lot going on behind the scenes whether it be designing space suits, working on the UI, building the first-person experience or even working on the website.

Regarding the dogfighting, Roberts passed on this update:

“As I write this, the Star Citizen team is all around me hard at work on the Dogfighting Module. We plan to premiere dogfighting at a special Citizens-only event just prior to PAX East. If all goes as planned, the Dogfighting Module itself will launch shortly after PAX and you will finally get your hands on your flight sticks! The team is scurrying to take care of thousands upon thousands of necessary details: variable damage states, HUD detailing, weapons cameras, engine sounds and countless other things that go into creating an immersive space combat experience. At this point, we can now regularly dogfight here in the office.”

There are a total of 212 people working on Star Citizen now which is not exactly a small development team and funding continues to roll in. New backers are joining all the time, and according to the stats,  71% if the $6 million they have raised since December has come from new backers.

There’s a lot to digest in this first instalment of the feature so I suggest grabbing a coffee and taking some time to read it all, especially if you are a backer.
