Star Wars Jedi Survivor Gameplay Cal Horizon

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor gameplay footage showcases dual lightsaber battles and a nod to Super Metroid

A trip through Koboh.

With the highly anticipated Star Wars Jedi: Survivor arriving in just a few months, IGN and Respawn Entertainment have provides fans with an extensive 9-minute gameplay showcase to enjoy until then. This showcase depicts protagonist Cal exploring the planet Koboh as he seeks to repair his grounded ship. Along the way, Cal encounters a variety of creatures both big and small, and contends with a few droids that attack him on sight. Fortunately, his detachable double-bladed lightsaber and potent force powers give him everything he needs to tackle virtually any problem.

IGN’s gameplay showcase treats viewers to a fair amount of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor‘s dynamic lightsaber combat. Between moments of relatively tranquil exploration, the showcase sees Cal taking on droids as well as more capable warriors wielding electric staffs and swords. Additionally, he battles swarms of the planet’s local wildlife as well as a large gorilla-like creature. Alongside his flashy lightsaber skills, Cal utilizes force pushes and even the ability to slow down time to gain the upper hand.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor gameplay showcases a familiar scenario

At one point during the showcase, Cal witnesses a few friendly creatures wall-jumping between two rock surfaces before replicating the action himself. This segment appears to serve as a direct homage to a similar sequence in Super Metroid in which Samus learns how to wall-jump out of a chasm after watching small alien creatures do the same.

From the looks of it, players will have a much easier time wall-jumping in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor than in Super Metroid. Retro gaming enthusiasts will no doubt appreciate this little nod, even if it somehow turns out to be completely unintentional.

All in all, this gameplay showcase gives those looking forward to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor a lot to get excited about. The comments under the video generally praised it, with the only common point of criticism levied toward Cal’s walking animation.
