Starbound beta hotfixed, weapons now less game-breaking

Remember when I told you about Starbound‘s latest beta patch, and how it was a bit broken? I hope you do. I mean, it wasn’t that long ago. Well, the broken bits have now been hotfixed! Hurray!

According to the patch notes for this version – titled Frustrated Koala, for reasons you might understand – a bug crept in at the last minute which re-enabled level for weapons, which should no longer be using that. As weapons were still set to the old 100 level system rather than the new 10 level system, this meant they were ludicrously overpowered. The patch notes only mention swords as being broken, but reports from the forums were that the Iron Bow was capable of killing the first boss in four hits, so hopefully all weapons have been tweaked.

That’s not the only change, but it’s the big one. Happily, this will not necessitate another character wipe; the notes state that if you have overpowered weapons or worlds, then you’ll still have them. Obviously, this isn’t much use for actual beta testing, but hey – if you really like your weapons doing an astronomical amount of damage, you can keep ’em. It’s nice to have the option, at least.

The rest of the patch notes for this hotfix follow.

– Uranium, plutonium and solarium now work as fuels
– You can now REALLY craft a grappling hook
– Boss balance has been tightened even more
– Platinum armor is now unlocked on tier 5
– You can now ‘recapture’ pets
– Some more fixes
