Valve has now kicked live the the Steam Family Options for everyone following its beta test phase.
If you’ve not had the chance to test this out in beta then listen up because this may be important if you have kiddies. What the system allows you to do is limit access to certain features on a Steam account by adding a pin to keep the little buggers out of content you don’t want them to see.
To keep undesirable content or games away from the younger members of your household, or to limit their own account, head to the settings and manage the “Family Options” in the family tab. Simply step through the process of setting this up selecting the options you want to be available in the PIN-protected Family View section.
There is an option to allow access to certain games by adding them into “Family Games” which will be available to anyone. Games can be moved into or out of this subset by right clicking on them and selecting “Add to / Remove from Family Games.”
To access the content that you’ve locked down at a later date (useful if an account is shared with the kids), click the “Family View” button and enter the pin in that section to get access.
Now all those violent gun shooty type games can be kept away from those young impressionable minds.
