Valve must be very happy with the New Year, as Steam has reached a new peak concurrent user record on the 1st day of 2015.

Around 11: 30 in the morning, the service had 8,466,441 users. This isn’t the first time the service hit 8 million, but it is the largest number of simultaneous users it had at one time.

Valve, of course, may have benefited indirectly from the PSN and XBL outages, prompting fans to play their games on PC. What do you think has precipitated this? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
